The Life COR project objectives are :

• Disseminating the new Waste Framework Directive and its goal: the European Recycling Society . And therefore, the objectives of the PROGEMIC Programme of Municipal Waste Management of Catalonia (2007-2012) , which oversees the PMGRM Metropolitan Programme of Municipal Waste Management (2009/2016) of Barcelona Metropolitan Area :

  Reduction of waste generation by actions of prevention and reuse. Achievement of the maximum material use of the resources contained in waste, by enhancing selective collection systems. Recovery of the remaining fraction (both material and energy recovery).

• Improving the understanding of resources - products - waste , and raising awareness of the need for a sustainable management system that enables the material and energy recovery of materials and contribute to mitigate climate change.

• Demonstrating that citizen action is essential to achieve the objectives of the Waste Framework Directive and the PMGRM. Everyone has a role to play.

• Encouraging citizens to modify their habits and incorporate correct domestic waste management (separation of the different fractions) in their daily routine, shared by all members of the family unit.

• The transferability of the project results and best practices to other regions, so they can implement their own campaigns adapted to their particular context.

EU added value of the Life COR project:

The environmental objective of the project is enhancing the value of waste. Waste management is a challenge for the European Union. This fact is confirmed by the adoption of the new Waste Framework Directive by the Council of the EU, in October 2008.

This Framework Directive highlights the current concerns of the EU on waste management and establish a new and simpler common framework. Member states are obliged to undertake national plans for waste management and prevention programs, which must assume the descending hierarchy:

In 2014, the European Commission will set binding targets to be achieved in 2020. In addition to the consistency and contribution to European environmental objectives, the Life COR project also promotes awareness and the development of respectful skills towards the environment.
